Trendspotting: Wine Shades

Wine shades returned to intoxicate the 2012 runway this fall season with hues ranging from bold red to deep burgundy. Merlot, Bordeaux, Cabernet and more were just some of the colors that came uncorked and found themselves in the collections of many designers including Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, and Gucci.

Like fine wine, these rich garnet reds are not only complimentary, pairing perfectly with camel and charcoal grey, but they also stand well on their own, being able to be worn as a monochromatic look. You can find these tones in virtually any piece from outerwear and dresses to shoes and accessories and it is even seen in one of the other popular fall trends – the red lip.

So fill your closet (and glass) with some vino this fall and stand out with this classic color trend!

Throwback Thursday: Slap Bracelets

From jelly shoes and butterfly clips to Tamagotchis and Pogs, the 90’s produced some very memorable trends but none of those were quite as entertaining (and potentially dangerous) as the slap bracelet. Also called the snap bracelet, these plastic bracelets were a popular fad among children and teens of the late 80’s and early 90’s.

What was not to love? Not only did they come in just about every color and design you could imagine, they were also a great distraction in class and a perfect way to annoy your friends. It was a sad, sad day when teachers started banning slap bracelets claiming they were dangerous after one student removed the bracelets covering and ended up with a nasty cut on her wrist. Let’s be honest – they really just got tired of us all snapping and re-snapping them over and over in class. The irony? The slap bracelet was actually invented by a teacher. Wooppss!

Here at Case-Mate we miss the slap bracelet so we are here to bring it back in our own way. Check out our Snap Case for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S and reminisce about one of our childhood’s most awesome pop culture trends.

Trendspotting: Minimalism

There is something undeniably chic about the clean lines and simplicity of design that defines the minimalist trend that has been circling fashion and home decor for the last couple of years. While some may consider the neutral color pallets and streamlined tailoring a bit boring in concept, when worn right the look has been said to make you appear more intelligent and elegant.

While the trend is both versatile and timeless, one of its most appealing characteristics is the way it calls attention to the element of design itself. Many clothing and furniture pieces stand beautifully on their own, and more and more we are seeing people opt for minimalism to allow that aesthetic to take center stage.

This is increasing popular when it comes to technology. With the sleek and sharp designs of smartphones and tablets, people are choosing to highlight the phone itself and wear it without a case. The downside of this is that the phone is left without any protection from drops or scratches. Enter Case-Mate! We have created cases such as the Barely There Case and the Naked Case for the iPhone 5 to help you showcase your phones design while still protecting it from everyday wear and tear.

The Naked Case Giveaway!

When you think of minimalism, you think of _____? Tell us!

We will then randomly select three of you to win a Naked Case for the iPhone 5! Contest  begins 10/3/2012 @ 2:30 pm EST and ends 10/5/2012 @ 2:30 pm EST!

Here’s how to play:

  1. Tweet us what comes to mind when you think of “minimalism” at @CaseMate.
  2. We will tweet the winners on 10/5 at 2:30 pm EST. You will then need to direct message us your email address and we will contact you with details.
