New Employee: Synee Means

March 30th, 2010 Dayna View Comments

How long have you been working for case-mate? What is your new role?
I have been at Case-Mate for 2 weeks and 3 days. My position is Purchasing Analyst.

What did you do before coming to case-mate?
I worked for an off-price retailer called K & G for 9 years and then I worked for a uniform company for 4 months called G & K and no, they are not related.

What phone do you currently use? Love it or hate it?
I have a Sanyo/Qualcomm 3G CDMA… (Note to self: never downsize from a smartphone, my answer to the love it or hate it question)

What was your first cell phone?
My first cell phone was the original flip phone, currently residing in the Smithsonian.

What features do you look for in a case?
Something protective and pretty. I am really rough on my phones!

What’s your favorite case?
My favorite case is the VROOM.

Where is the craziest / funniest place or situation your phone has ever been in?
Okay, the funniest place my phone has been is inside my couch. Now the funny part about that is the cushions of my couch are sewn on, meaning you can’t remove them. So I would hear the phone ring, then look for it under the couch, around the couch beside the couch, etc. I basically had to tap the underside of the couch for resistance to see if something was actually in it. I also had to cut a hole in the bottom of the couch to get the phone out. Since that little incident, I have found all kinds of things inside the couch, like my house keys, books, hair supplies, pens. I try not to sit on it as much.

Favorite website or news-source?
My favorite website would be Google. Not sure how I looked up anything on the internet before Google.

Favorite you-tube video?
Favorite YouTube video is an old MadTV skit called “Can I have your number?” I could watch it over and over and still laugh like crazy.

Favorite phone app?
See type of phone answer.

Guilty pleasures?
My guilty pleasure is writing. I have a feeling that when I die, all of my writings will be discovered and I will become super famous after the fact.

What can’t you live without? Or can’t go for more than 2 hours without?
I seriously cannot live without TIVO/DVR. I actually don’t watch regular TV, I just watch Tivo.

When you’re not working at case-mate, what do you do with your spare time?
In my spare time I am either writing or completing 1000 piece puzzles.

March 23rd, 2010 Dayna View Comments
Consumers Now Have More Ways to Stylishly Protect their Gadgets with Seven New iPad Products and the ‘I Make My Case’ Online Personalization Tool for BlackBerry Smartphones
LAS VEGAS – March 23, 2010 – Case-mate, a designer of innovative accessories for mobile devices, today announced seven new iPad accessories and the latest version of its extremely popular online personalization tool, I Make My Case, which gives consumers the ability to collaborate with trendsetting global artists to create one-of-a kind covers, now for the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700 and BlackBerry® Curve™ 8520 smartphones.
“Case-mate is committed to giving consumers fashion-forward accessories that support their personal style,” said Shashi Reddy, founder and CEO of case-mate. “We believe that these eight products add unique personality to our growing array of accessories already on the market and give iPad and BlackBerry users new ways to protect their devices in style.”
I Make My Case
First announced at CES 2010, ‘I Make My Case’ is now available for BlackBerry® smartphones. ‘I Make My Case’ is the first web site of its kind in the mobile accessories space that allows users to create their own original composition by re-mixing the designs of internationally-renowned graphic artists, including Joshua Davis, Deanne Cheuk, Thomas Hooper, Matt Moore, Hannah Stouffer, Ray Frenden, Anthony Yankovic, Nigel Dennis, Shadow Chen, Chuck Anderson and more. Consumers who want the end-result without the effort can purchase a pre-designed case from the site as well.
Designed for true customization, case-mate’s ‘I Make My Case’ allows users to choose all elements of their case including background color, unique effects and one-of-a-kind illustrations. Using a state-of-the-art 3D sublimation printing process that embeds ink directly into the case, case-mate ensures that the cases will not scratch or abrade with daily use.
Beginning March 23rd, consumers can create their own case for select BlackBerry smartphones at www.imakemycase.com/blackberry. Pre-designed cases will be available for $34.99 and customized made-to-order cases will be available for $39.99 per case. Finished cases will begin shipping in mid-April.
iPad Portfolio
With seven new case styles for the iPad, case-mate offers something for everyone:
  • I Make My Case: Offering the ultimate in personalization and protection, consumers can remix art from world-renowned artists to create a completely unique, one-of-a-kind case for their iPad.
  • Tough: The Hybrid Tough case for the iPad uses the protective power of dual layers. A form-fitting silicone skin surrounds the iPad completely, absorbing each impact or hard knock. Wrapped around the skin is an ABS plastic shell for complete security, adding another level of protection – and making for a firm grip.
  • Gelli: The Gelli adds a splash of color while keeping the iPad safe with a fully protective, cutting-edge flexible thermoplastic material. The Gelli is soft, light and sports a unique pattern to guarantee the iPad will stand out.
  • Felt Folio: Sporting a side-opening and leather accents, the Felt Folio includes light storage with additional pockets and keeps the iPad secure with a magnetic strap while on the go.
  • Leather Commuter: This executive folio made of premium tan leather offers magnetic locks embedded into the case for a sleek protective fit.
  • Nylon Folio: Created out of a black ballistic nylon material, this splash-resistant folio is the perfect basic for a minimalistic mindset.
  • Stand: An innovative stand for the iPad, the stand offers both landscape and portrait modes for viewing. Its unique design collapses and snaps together for easy storage when not in use.
The portfolio of iPad accessories will be available in Q2 and will range in price from $20.00 – $80.00.  All products will be available at www.case-mate.com.

How Inductive Charging Could Save the World… Yes the World!

March 22nd, 2010 Goldie View Comments

If you’re a fan of Case-mate (if you’re reading this post than I think it’s safe to say you are) then you’ve heard about our new wireless charging solution for iphone called the Hug®. Case-mate has partnered with Fulton Innovations to bring Universal Wireless Charging Technology to the loyal Case-mate masses.

How does it work you may ask? Inductive charging transfers power through a magnetic field from a power base to your handset device, nerd alert! The technology is really cool. Fulton Innovations is partnering with other industry leaders to incorporate the technology into more and more of your daily devices. Imagine never having to plug in your laptop because the coffee table charges it for you? Yea, awesome. So I know what you’re thinking, Dave you good looking, funny, charming delight of a person, how could this technology save the world?

Well, I started thinking about how cool this technology is and what could be done on a large level and a wireless light bulb went off in my head, electric cars! One of the big drawbacks to the electric car is the recharging complications. I symbolically married the peanut butter (inductive charging) and jelly (electric car in this case) and have figured that inductive charging and electric cars could team up to save the world!

So here we go, you have an electric car and you incorporate the inductive charging into your garage floor and bam, by simply parking in your garage you’ve plugged in your electric car for the night. Now on a bigger scale when you stop at a red light you’re usually held up for 2-4 minutes. If you multiply that 2-4 minutes by four red lights then that’s roughly 15 minutes of charging you could grab on the go. Are you picking up what I’m putting down so far?

Now on an even larger scale we could put this technology into parking lots and even the office where your car probably spends most of its time. Now your car is spending more time on the charger than it is using its power reserve. Imagine arriving to work in the morning with your car on empty (which wouldn’t happen if you had it charging in your garage  overnight) and leaving work at night with a full “tank” and all you did was park? What a country, right? I know there are a few details I’m glossing over but hopefully you see what I’m electronically driving at.

At this point you can do the math on the trickle down effect of this master plan. Petroleum demand dwindles down drastically. Harmful and toxic emissions dwindles down drastically. The air gets cleaner due to the drop in carbon emissions and the issues and conflicts regarding the dependency on foreign oil dissipate. Most importantly your beloved Case-mate Blog writer gets to say his four favorite words, “I told you so.” So while inductive charging is just beginning its world saving mission with your phone, it might possibly save the world in the future!
