Case-mate Basketball Throw-down

January 29th, 2010 Dayna No comments

Well, it was a close one. We (the girls) fought hard but didn’t pull it off in the end… At least we had matching T-shirts and ninja assasin sweatbands, unlike the boys, who looked like ragamuffins. We’ll get ‘em next time!

FINAL SCORE: BOYS – 29 GIRLS – 22

The PD Slice: Raw Ingredients

January 29th, 2010 ashlyn No comments

Welcome to your first taste of the PD Slice, served weekly. PD (Product Development) is a mysterious department within case-mate. Therefore I will make it a point to cook you up just a little bit less than top-secret toppings. Otherwise, I’d have to kill you.

PD is so top secret that we are equipped with our own guard dog, Fairbanks. Standing 9 inches tall and weighing a beefy 9 lbs., Fairbanks is the leader of the PD pack.

Like Fairbanks, the rest of us animals in PD make it a point to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks to use the bathroom outside and of course, beg for food.

In an attempt to not over cook this first entry, consider your first PD slice served.

Niche Society: Banksy Film

January 28th, 2010 Matt No comments

Hello, I have been privileged to be given the task from the Gods of everything online to write a blog post for case-mate.com! As just a precursor to future blogging adventures, I wanted to give you a taste of what’s to come.

(This is where you would insert a brilliantly edited montage of snip-its from the future.)

Niche Society is going to be all about ‘niche’ stuff. Stuff that I love and appreciate ranging from amazing design, new gadgets (not just tech related), interesting projects that people are working on, and generally anything that is worth talking about or looking at.

So, here is my first ever post, I’m going to keep this one short since its the first one.

Here’s a trailer for a “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” a new film featuring the well known and controversial artist Banksy that will premiere at Sundance. Banksy is a street artist from the UK, and has become famous for his controversial imagery all around London and the World. In my opinion, Banksy is one of the most influential and innovative artists in recent history. His medium isn’t one you can find at an art supply store unless you go outside and look at the brick walls.

Banksyfilm.com

I can’t wait to see this film, and to get an in-depth look into Banksy and how he does his work! Banksy has been one of those figures who has managed to stay in the shadows and out of the public eye, so this film will be a real treat into seeing the method behind his madness.

The Golden Standard: Jeans in the Office

January 27th, 2010 Goldie 2 comments

We’re very lucky here at case-mate, the “powers that be” let us wear jeans to work every day and it’s awesome. It something small but it definitely has an impact on our work environment. Comfortable employees equal productive employees.

I propose that jeans be the “Golden Standard” in all offices.

Sure, you don’t want see the NASA staff launching a satellite in dungarees and you probably wouldn’t want police officers wearing skinny jeans that are so tight they couldn’t run after people, but for the cubicle world, jeans should be the accepted everyday business attire.

Drumroll Please!

January 27th, 2010 Dayna No comments

Take your seats and get ready for some new perspectives on the case-mate blog. Here come the Case-mate Wise-Guys (and Gal)!

This week, we’ll debut three new blog columns,  The PD Slice, The Gold Standard and The Niche Society from case-mate insiders Ashlyn Remillard, David “Goldie” Goldstein and Matt Shackleford.

Here’s a little about them:

Ashlyn

How long have you been working for case-mate? Tell us about what you do here. Since November 2009 aka like a week! I’ the Product Development Coordinator, so I whip PD into shape… 3 sets of 15 reps a day!

What phone do you currently use? Love it or hate it? iPhone and I love it – not for the apps but for the cases!

Where is the craziest / funniest place your phone has ever been? Not funny-bottom of a toilet/pool (not at the same time though).

Favorite you-tube video? The video of this little baby who gives an evil eye and then busts out laughing… and then repeats it over and over.

Favorite phone app? AP News and words with friends (scrabble).

What can’t you live or go for more than 2 hours without? I cannot live without soft lips chap stick…nor can I go more than 2 hours without it!

Goldie

How long have you been working for case-mate? Tell us about what you do here. Almost a year. I work in the sales department as the Account Manager for case-mate Europe.

What/where was your first job? A country club with two golf courses. It was great, I got to work outside and drive golf carts all day.

What was your first cell phone? Nokia  5 series. I remember playing the Snake game nonstop. The fact the phone had games on it seemed mind blowing at the time.

What features do you look for in a case? It has to be something that’s innovative and new. That way I can show you why it’s better than the one you have on your phone.

Favorite case-mate related story? I met a  very sweet girl who found out I worked at case-mate and she commented on how she loved the Recession Case promo we did. It was really Matt Shackleford in our Marketing Department who came up with the entire campaign but I told her it was all my idea in an effort to get a date.

Guilty pleasures? Reality shows and the ‘E’ channel. My friends make fun of me but the people on them fascinate and bewilder me.

Shackleford

How long have you been working for case-mate? Tell us about what you do here. I’ve been at case-mate for nearly a year and a half and I’m the brand manager for I Make My Case, yes I do have the coolest job.

What was your first cell phone? Well I’m not sure if you have ever heard of the show “Saved By The Bell,” but Zack Morris had a Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, that was my first phone.

Favorite you-tube video? ‘Whips’ by Balloon Shop. Supporting my friends!

Favorite phone app? I Am T-Pain

When you’re not working at case-mate, what do you do with your spare time? Mostly spend time with my fiancee, hang out downtown, and drink coffee! Also I used to love playing my XBOX 360 but it died, so if anyone has one they want to donate I would appreciate it!

How long have you been working for case-mate?
Well lets see, its January 22, 2010 @ 10:54AM …. 738 days, 3 hours, and 54 minutes to be exact.

Tell us about what you do here.
I am a project manager for product development. I am orchestrating the success of two of our 2010 hero products.

What/where was your first job?
My first job was at a baseball concession stand. All the free Big League Chew you could get.

What phone do you currently use? Love it or hate it?
My current mobile cellular media device is the renowned Apple iPhone 3G. Have you heard of it?

What was your first cell phone?
My first cellphone was a Nokia. It had flashing buttons and a flashing antenna. The face plate was chrome!

What features do you look for in a case?
Superior protection, with minimal bulk.

What’s your favorite case?
My favorite case is my very own designed case that was created on imakemycase.com

What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to your phone?
It was not my phone, but my fiance’s. It went missing for about two days, and I continued to call and call. We had just figured it had been left somewhere besides our house. She was adamant on finding it instead of replacing the phone. So, I was on the back porch cooking, and I heard a phone ringing. I leaned toward the fence, and the ring was coming from the ground… our dog had buried it. It was not damaged or anything! CRAZY!!

Favorite case-mate story?
Remember that one time we were all at… I cannot release any information without an NDA.

Favorite website or news-source?
My favorite website is break.com. I have a problem with viral videos. I find myself loading up the site when I get home to see what people have posted for the day. Some are quite amusing.

Favorite you-tube video?
The one where the hamster gives you the evil eye with the dramatic music in the background.

Favorite phone app?
My favorite iPhone app is Score Center (ESPN). It allows you to customize your favorite sports teams/categories and gives you updates on games, stats, etc.

Guilty pleasures?
Tattoos. Its addictive. If you have never had one, you would think ….oh, ill just get one. Come one! really you serious. You cannot just get one. one leads to two, etc. I might leave early today to get one?

What can’t you live without?
I cannot live without peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I have a thing for peanut butter, I’m not sure if they have meetings for that or not. I fall into depression when I spoon out the last bit from the jar.

When you’re not working at case-mate, what do you do with your spare time?
Prepare for tomorrow’s work load, try to sleep, maybe eat something.

iPhone Survival

January 21st, 2010 Dayna 1 comment

Today, Wired came out with the ultimate story of iPhone survival: the story of  filmmaker Dan Woolley who used iPhone apps to survive for 64 hours while buried in rubble.  The voice of the critics: “How did he make his iPhone last for 64 hours?

Well, there’s been plenty of speculation on whether he had extra battery packs and nothing’s been officially released on how he made his battery last so long, but we at case-mate know one way he could have made that battery last: the case-mate Fuel battery charger.
